NootroScore is our proprietary rating system designed to give you a quick, reliable way to compare supplement products. Each product receives a score from 7.0 to 9.8, calculated using a multi-factor algorithm that considers value, quality indicators, and product transparency.
Unlike simple star ratings, NootroScore takes into account the relative pricing within each supplement category, third-party certifications, product completeness, and Amazon marketplace signals to generate a comprehensive, fair score.
How NootroScore Works
Value Analysis
Products are scored based on their price relative to other products in the same supplement category. Lower-cost options within a category receive a higher value score.
Weight: Up to 2.0 points
Compares price position within the full range of products for each supplement.
Quality Signals
We factor in marketplace badges (Amazon's Choice, Best Seller), availability status, and verified purchase indicators as quality signals.
Weight: Up to 0.5 points
Amazon's Choice and Best Seller badges contribute the most to this factor.
Product Transparency
Products that clearly disclose dosages, ingredient amounts, and count information score higher. We penalize products with excessive marketing language.
Weight: Up to 0.25 points
Clear specs and appropriate naming conventions are rewarded.
Base Score
Every product starts with a base score of 6.8, reflecting the fact that products available on major marketplaces have already passed basic quality thresholds.

Score Scale
Exceptional
Outstanding value and quality. Top-tier products with excellent pricing, strong quality signals, and full transparency. These represent the best options in their category.
Excellent
Very strong products with competitive pricing and good quality indicators. Highly recommended for most users.
Very Good
Solid products that offer good overall value. May not top every metric but still represent reliable choices.
Good
Adequate products that meet basic standards. May have room for improvement in pricing, transparency, or quality signals.
Baseline
The minimum score. Products at this level meet basic requirements but may lack competitive pricing, clear labeling, or marketplace recognition.
Score Normalization
To prevent score inflation and ensure meaningful differentiation, NootroScore applies a normalization curve at the upper end of the scale:
- Scores above 9.0 are compressed by 30% to make exceptional ratings truly meaningful
- Scores above 9.5 are further compressed by 50%, making scores near 9.8 extremely rare
- The maximum possible score is 9.8 — no product receives a perfect 10
- The minimum score is 7.0 — all listed products have met our baseline criteria

Is NootroScore influenced by sponsors or advertisers?
No. NootroScore is calculated algorithmically based on publicly available data. While we may earn affiliate commissions from product links, our scoring is completely independent of any commercial relationships.
How often are scores updated?
Scores are recalculated whenever we update our product database, which happens regularly. Price changes, new badges, and product availability updates can all affect scores.
Can a product's score change over time?
Yes. Since NootroScore factors in relative pricing and marketplace signals, scores can shift as new products enter a category or existing products change their pricing.
Why is the maximum score 9.8 and not 10?
A perfect 10 would imply a flawless product with no room for improvement, which is unrealistic. The 9.8 cap ensures that even our highest-rated products are understood to have potential areas for enhancement.
